240km marathon on ice
D's next adventure is about to begin. :)

Hey folks,

Happy New Year.

As most of you know, just 3 months ago, I completed my most challenging
odyssey to date: a 7 day, 237 kilometer (147 miles) self-supported
ultra-marathon across the world's hottest desert - the Sahara Desert in
Egypt. The radiant heat was a blistering 51 degrees Celsius (124 degrees F).
On Day 2, I succumbed to heat exhaustion and collapsed in the sand dunes.
Then on Day 5, no amount of pain and misery would stop me. With the great
Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx watching over me, I sprinted across the
finish line proudly waving the Hong Kong SAR flag over my head.

So what's next??? Well, this has been a 4-year journey of running across
tahe highest desert (the Gobi) in 2003, The driest desert (the Atacama) in
2004, the hottest desert (the Sahara) in 2005 and now in 2006, I will try
the coldest...

From January 24-31, I am going to attempt to be the first Hong Konger to run
across the South Pole. I am at a complete loss as to how I am going to cope
with the bone chilling -50 degree Celsius (-58 degrees F) weather, pummeling
katabatic (gravity driven) winds and 24 hour daylight. I guess I'll just
have to wing it. Have you seen March Of The Penguins? Well, it's going to be
a million penguins plus 12 crazy ultra-marathon runners.

Of course, my efforts are for a good cause - the Society For The Prevention
Of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA).
