i can see my bone
this is freaking me out.

today is the first day i'm eating solid foods again. it felt good... until i went to brush my teeth after that. since it's the first day i can actually open my mouth wider, i could poke around and look at my stitches (not taken out yet because i had no time to see the dentist yesterday, so changed appointment to tomorrow arvo). goddamn! there's a huge gaping hole above my stitches and i can see my bone right through it! is that normal? or did my stitches pop open? i seriously can't tell because i havent been able to look at the whole area closely since the operation.

isn't it supposed to close up entirely over the bone? wasn't that the whole point of stitching it up?

it's one thing for me to enjoy playing with my extracted teeth and another to be able to see my own bone!

o.o

why must it be national day today? darn clinic is closed.

does anyone have a friend who is a dentist?

'fraid not, chickster. That doesn't sound like great news, though.

Owowow :o(

Mum was training to be a dentist I think (or dental tech or something like that)

Hope it's nothing serious sweetie.

it's rather un-nerving. haw haw. couldn't resist the pun.

sigh.

i'm actually looking forward to going to the dentist tomorrow.

i won't know until tomorrow, but meanwhile i'm just trying to stop myself from freaking out. :s

bones are not meant to be seen! this is a very big no-no for me.

and it's hurting like hell too.
vanessafridavanessafrida on August 10th, 2006 05:44 am (UTC)
you ok now>??? *concerned*
JV: japogothdrag0nette on August 10th, 2006 10:00 am (UTC)
hmmm... i'm not sure. doc said it's normal but i don't quite believe him. he said the bone will slowly rebuild itself from the inside and it will slowly close up. he also said he was surprised that i could see so deep inside, because most patients can't see it.

i poked around the web and it sounds like i have a condition called dry socket where the blood clot dislodges prematurely causing the bone to be exposed before complete healing can take place. overseas, dentists would pack the socket with oil of cloves or something to help the healing. but maybe in singapore they don't bother to treat it and let the patient heal gradually over months.

it'll be many long months of extreme-sensitivity! urgh. the nerves are exposed. :(
jasonmichaels on August 10th, 2006 01:13 pm (UTC)
I read that's normal until the gums heal over it.

I need to have my wisdom teeth out too, but I've been putting it off. We could have been swollen freaks together!
JV: japogothdrag0nette on August 10th, 2006 02:46 pm (UTC)
i didn't get swollen though! :) i had anti-swelling drugs from the doc!

saw the doc today and he said it will cover up in time. meanwhile... i'm not enjoying having the nerves exposed and getting constantly reminded of their presence everytime i drink water. :(

Hey, Jessica Evil is supposed to be tough!

You should suck on a popsicle or a piece of ice.
JV: japogothdrag0nette on August 10th, 2006 02:58 pm (UTC)
oh no... nerves in the jaw do not appreciate popsicles or ice!
jasonmichaels on August 10th, 2006 03:23 pm (UTC)
Looks like a few more weeks of applesauce and carrots through a tube.

Don't take it out on your victims!
JV: leaf116drag0nette on August 10th, 2006 04:10 pm (UTC)
victims? where? :)
vanessafridavanessafrida on August 10th, 2006 04:52 pm (UTC)
i checked with a couple of friends. was so worried cos i didn't hear from you today, on whether you were better and if you got to the dentist. :P

They said they had the same thing, and well it is exposed for a while. After some time the nerves get used to stuff, and you can go on as per normal. Summary, don't worry, you are NORMAL :)

teehee. thanks babe! that's really sweet of you. :)

i replied to your comment up somewhere there earlier... did you get it? i think mail alerts sometimes get a little screwed.

i wonder when i can bring myself to eat a steak. o.o
