the cabbie who ran alex over faces possible jailterm of 2 years and maybe a fine of $1000.

what kind of screwed up justice is that?

that's quite a joke isn't it? two short years and a thousand bux let you get away with running someone down on purpose and you get to ruin the life of a promising young man.

tell me it's a joke, singapore.

mm the family cannot appeal for a heavier sentence or something???
JV: downdrag0nette on April 29th, 2007 04:36 pm (UTC)
whether they appeal or not... it's just ridiculous.
Little Miss Sunshine.tiffanyx on April 29th, 2007 04:49 pm (UTC)

Re: alex
hi priscilla

thanks for your concern.. he's been running a consistent fever, so they couldn't move him out of icu. still in a coma.

it's sad, and if the relevant peeps don't mete out the deserved punishment, it's even sadder.

That's the sentence if they deem it as attempted manslaughter or something - one guy got off with just 12 months over here not long ago I think.

I hope he's not eligible for parole. *waves fist*

*hugs* and hope alex gets better soon.
JV: huhdrag0nette on April 30th, 2007 08:25 am (UTC)
12 months?!?!

what is wrong with the world today?
Okami-kun: idolokami_kun on April 30th, 2007 01:35 am (UTC)
not only that, - as an older citizen, he gets more leeway & higher possibility of parole. Also, you get 3mths?(i think) off every year of sentence to begin with - for holidays, weekends etc. so i wouldn't be surprised if he only served 6mths-1yr
JV: huhdrag0nette on April 30th, 2007 08:27 am (UTC)
that's just wrong. 3 months off every year? that's even better than working peeps' days of leave. holidays and weekends for criminals! wtf.
Okami-kun: kamiokami_kun on May 2nd, 2007 01:17 am (UTC)
true....but such are the facts of life....no use riling against it.

instead i'm hoping for a massive attack of the conscience leading to a partial stroke leaving him a vegetable.

one can always hope....*nasty grin*
JV: downdrag0nette on May 2nd, 2007 08:05 am (UTC)
he's not even pleading guilty... the conscience thing is not likely to happen. :(
seth_saraseth_sara on April 30th, 2007 03:10 am (UTC)
huh?! and i was thinking if he'll be charged with murder! it was deliberate and i'm sure the taxi driver was of sound mind! wat kind of justice is that?!! =O

how is that going to teach cabbies a lesson? their attitudes are getting from bad to worse!
JV: huhdrag0nette on April 30th, 2007 08:32 am (UTC)
exactly! what kind of message is this sending out to all the killers out there? it's apparently alright for them to try to kill someone with a vehicle! especially if you're an older citizen! gah!
Okami-kunokami_kun on May 2nd, 2007 01:18 am (UTC)
the strange thing is after it happened i scanned the 'Home' section of the Straits Times for the next few days (i usually skip the entire section) and was shocked to see that there was a similiar-type accident involving cabbies almost EVERY SINGLE DAY........
JV: huhdrag0nette on May 2nd, 2007 08:04 am (UTC)
friends tell me similar stories all the time, although alex's is the most severe. mother told me that a cabbie knocked into a biker on purpose and the biker died, quite recently.
The Citygent: DepressedGentcitygent on April 30th, 2007 09:52 am (UTC)
fucked up, man.

That happens a lot in this country, too.
JV: huhdrag0nette on April 30th, 2007 12:11 pm (UTC)
sigh. i just find it weird that this country sends drug dealers to death and the killers are the ones going scot-free.
Wenzwwenzz on May 1st, 2007 05:26 am (UTC)
heard from yvonne that the driver didn't plead guilty! wtf..
JV: huhdrag0nette on May 1st, 2007 09:08 am (UTC)
yes, he's not pleading guilty and wants to hire a lawyer. his wife says she's too busy to bother getting a lawyer for him and he can settle his own business.
lingding_a_linggg on May 8th, 2007 04:25 am (UTC)
wow thats freaking f up.
