it's not a swanky, poshy place... but it sure serves great food at great value. grab a table outside if you don't wanna get food smell in your hair... the interior decor is simple. food is the focus in this place.
the boss is a nice man who makes sure he serves up the freshest food. if something wasn't very tasty that day, he'd tell you so frankly and recommend something else.
salmon belly slices were very thick and succulent. that melt in your mouth texture and delicious fish flesh between your teeth. mmmm... very satisfying! all jap places should slice salmon like this!
beef tataki was generously sliced as well. raw bits were juicy, grilled bits had a wonderful smokey flavour. pile on the spring onions! yummmm
fried ika rings were fried to golden-brown crispy perfection with just the right amount of batter. squid flesh within was tender and not overcooked. none of that rubberband texture bullcrap from that other place that other time... dab with mayo or dark sauce!
agedashi tofu! this rocked... coulda been crispier on the outside but then it could be because we let it sit in the sauce for too long (too busy attacking the other dishes first...). the 'skin' of the tofu was savoury, and the tofu was smooooooothass.
compliments of the chef! kingfish belly sashimi.... a refreshing, crunchy texture with rich fish oils oozing, this was quite interesting. i could get used to this, though i still prefer salmon.
great value for 2pax @ approx 50bux!
