memoirs of a geisha
golden village @ junction 8, lunar new year's eve, with the KA and her man.

beautiful cinematography. postcard perfect in every scene. the plot is simple, and critics found it corny. but i liked it anyway. i think it's more enjoyable to appreciate the good bits, and forgive the bad, in most movies (unless it's a reaaally reeeeeeeaaally bad one, in which case i will pretend it's a comedy and laugh at everything).

we ended up eating fries after the movie. see what i mean when i said we're always being drawn to fast food?

It wasn't too bad a movie - though I kept thinking Gong Li looks pretty good for her age and it tickles me to hear them trying to speak English as if with a Japanese accent.

Pretty faithful to the book - though the chairman looked as if he never aged while everyone else did.

karen ann reckons they coulda found someone better looking to play the chairman. :P

Chow Yun Fatt would be really good - although Kaga of Iron Chef would be ok too ;)

i really liked that movie - altho after reading the book the beginning of the movie was kind of jarring. it started way into the book. of course, it had to and it was pretty long anyway...but you really missed alot of - hm - the betrayal that occured. even tho it didnt really change the rest of the story - it really did 'matter', i thought so anyway...

as for 'kaga' ....lol...i dont think i could look at him in that movie with without hearing "allez cuisine !" and that wouldnt work in memoirs :) i heard he's done west side story in japan and my mind just boggles... lol.

i'm a sucker for books! :) but at the rate i'm straining my eyes daily, i suspect i will be forced to turn to audio versions whether i like it or not. :[
