i can see my bone
this is freaking me out.

today is the first day i'm eating solid foods again. it felt good... until i went to brush my teeth after that. since it's the first day i can actually open my mouth wider, i could poke around and look at my stitches (not taken out yet because i had no time to see the dentist yesterday, so changed appointment to tomorrow arvo). goddamn! there's a huge gaping hole above my stitches and i can see my bone right through it! is that normal? or did my stitches pop open? i seriously can't tell because i havent been able to look at the whole area closely since the operation.

isn't it supposed to close up entirely over the bone? wasn't that the whole point of stitching it up?

it's one thing for me to enjoy playing with my extracted teeth and another to be able to see my own bone!

why must it be national day today? darn clinic is closed.

does anyone have a friend who is a dentist?

hmmm... i'm not sure. doc said it's normal but i don't quite believe him. he said the bone will slowly rebuild itself from the inside and it will slowly close up. he also said he was surprised that i could see so deep inside, because most patients can't see it.

i poked around the web and it sounds like i have a condition called dry socket where the blood clot dislodges prematurely causing the bone to be exposed before complete healing can take place. overseas, dentists would pack the socket with oil of cloves or something to help the healing. but maybe in singapore they don't bother to treat it and let the patient heal gradually over months.

it'll be many long months of extreme-sensitivity! urgh. the nerves are exposed. :(
